He was born on Dec. 10, 1917, at Hawk Point to Douglas and Rebecca (Gibbs) Walton. Flavius was blessed to have eight siblings. He never met a stranger and was able to make friends with anyone.
Flay worked as a sales representative for the Cosco Corp for many years. He married Dorthea Lane on Nov. 14, 1942 and to this union were born four daughters: Patricia, Kathleen, Rebecca and Betty Jane.
During WWII, Flay was called to serve in the U.S. Army. While in service, he participated in the Aleutian Campaign, Naples-Foggia Campaign, Rome-Arno Campaign, Southern France Campaign and Germany Campaign. Flay was a man of integrity and honesty. If he gave you his word, you could count on it. Taking care of his family had always been his No. 1 priority. He had been active in his community church and most recently, the First Christian Church in Troy. Flavius will be long remembered by all those who knew and loved him.
Surviving are his daughter: Betty Jane Walton of Portland, Ore.; his brother: Bob Walton, of Troy; his sister: Betty Creech, of Troy; his eight grandchildren: Amy (Kinion) Burbage, Michael Lynch, Angela Wingert, Kristina Raff, Kara Mashek, Lelah Oshaughnessy, Sarah Oshaughnessy, Joe Oshaughnessy and one great-grandchild on-the-way; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the First Christian Church in Troy. Funeral service will be held also on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at 12 noon at the First Christian Church in Troy. Rev. Jacob Thorne will officiate. Interment will follow in Hawk Point Cemetery in Hawk Point.
