Eleanor was born on February 25, 1917 on a farm north of Max, North Dakota to Arthur and Anna (Shuren) Bostow. She was reared on a farm north of Max and graduated from Max High School. She graduated from Minot State Teachers College and taught at rural schools and small communities, including Ross ND, throughout northwestern North Dakota.
Eleanor married Oliver Ervin Aas on November 2, 1946 in Sidney, MT. They made their home in Minot where she was employed by Gamble Robinson Grocery and they operated a small grocery store.
Eleanor and Oliver moved to the Shuren/Bostow family farm in Rushville and Gasman Townships in 1958 where they raised small grains and purebred Hereford cattle. They retired from farming in 1985, but had continued to reside on the farm where they enjoyed the solitude of country living. Oliver died on May 10, 2006. Eleanor moved into Minot later in 2006.
Eleanor was a member of Vincent United Methodist Church and the ladies organizations of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Aerie. She especially enjoyed playing cards and bingo.
Survivors include her brother: Ray Bostow of Annandale, Virginia as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Alfred.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church – Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park – Minot.
Visitation: Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Alzheimer's research.
