On July 24 to Aug 24, 1863, his name appears on a receipt roll at Camp Curry, where he enlisted (near) Talladega. Returning to active service, he was killed at the Battle of New Hope Church, Georgia, a battle in the Atlanta Campaign.
A large statue, located in the cemetery at Talladega, reads on one of the base blocks, "Wm. E. EASLEY 1st SERGT. CO. F. 30TH ALABAMA REGT. KILLED AT NEWHOPE, GA JUNE 28, 1864."
