He was a self-employed Brick Layer and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of the Eagles Lodge #302, American Legion Post 29 and the Brick Layers Union. Richard was a founding member of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department and attended St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are
his loving wife, Jean Moe Abele, whom he married November 23, 1944;
four sons, Warren (Becky) Abele of Dresden, Mike (Susan) Abele of Nashport, Jack (Pat) Abele of Blacklick and Lester Abele of Zanesville;
a daughter, Pat (Dean) Harper of Zanesville;
twelve grandchildren;
twenty five great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by
a grandson, Michael James Abele;
a brother, Russell Abele;
a sister, Evelyn Milner;
a brother-in-law, Eugene Milner.
Funeral service at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville with Pastor James Peters officiating. Burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Zanesville with full military honors provided by the United States Navy in conjunction with the VFW George Selsalm Post 1058.
