Mrs. Ed. Winters (Burnham Estelle Tyree Winters) called by death
Mrs. Ed. Winters died a 9 o'clock Thursday morning, December 24th at her home at Bryan Mound after a protracted illness.
Mrs. Winters had been in impaired health for a number of years, and had been confined to her bed for about three weeks. Only by an indominable will power and yearning to remain with her husband and children did the frail and tired body keep up for months the battle with the grim reaper, finally yielding the struggle on Christmas eve, the day she had always given of herself so unsparingly to the happiness of her loved ones.
In an unostentious way she lived the true Christian life that should be an inspiration for faithfulness to those who knew her well. Her affection for the orphaned niece and nephew since the death of their parents, was beautiful to witness. Their pleasure and needs were her first consideration. She was a faithful, wife, a wonderful mother and a good neighbor.
The deceased was born in Gonzales County on Feb. 14th, 1887 being at the time of her death 38 years, 10 months and 10 days old. She is survived by her husband, one son, B.F. Winters and two daughters, Emogene and Dolly Winters, and a niece and nephew, Josephine and Frank Winters. Besides several other brothers and sisters, she leaves a sister, Mrs. Cude (Louiza Jane Tyree Cude), who has been most faithful and devoted during her declining days.
The remains were prepared for burial by undertaker, J.C. Friedrich and were accompanied by the family to Moore, Texas where interment was made.
Many beautiful offerings were sent from Freeport, among them a wreath from the Freeport School faculty, one from the Senior Class of the Freeport School and one from the Freeport Base Ball team.
Following is the card of thanks:
We wish to express our keen appreciation and sincere thanks to the many friends and neighbors who so kindly ministered to our loved one during her illness and for every thoughtful attention and sympathy shown us at the time of her death.
May he who does all things well reward each of you:
