Clifford married Shirley Yvonne Coop on June 9, 1982 in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma. They have two children, their elder a daughter, Amanda Yvonne and their younger a son, Seth Ray.
Clifford was a truck driver for Trans Am Trucking Company and formerly a member of the Oklahoma National Guard. He was a member of the Southwest Pentecostal Church of God.
He was killed in a tractor-trailer truck accident when another truck driver's load shifted causing it to overturn and slide into Clifford's truck. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Bearers were Trans Am drivers Johnny Jacobson Jr., Russ McElliott, Doug Hagan, James Paul, Roy Shottenkirk and Rob Sergent.
