WELLINGTON - Henry C. "Pop" Sullivan, 91, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, in Amarillo.

Henry was born Oct. 18, 1919, in Wellington to James Pinkney and Clay Wells Sullivan. He married Bennie Clark on May 2, 1941, in Austin. She preceded him in death in 1996.

"Sully" graduated from Wellington High School in 1937, and attained a chemical engineering degree from University of Texas at Austin in 1941.

He worked for Shell Oil Co. in Port Arthur for three years. He then returned to his home town in 1945, to join his father-in-law, A.B. Clark, in the Chevrolet dealership. He retired in 1981.

He had served on the Wellington City Council, the First United Methodist Church Administrative Board, Collingsworth Hospital Board, the Wellington Cemetery Association Board, the building committees for the Collingsworth Public Library, the Rocket House, Parkview Manor Assisted Living, and the First United Methodist Church.

Henry was a member of the FUMC and the Wellington Masonic Lodge. As an avid golfer, he was a charter member of the Wellington Country Club and a former Club Champion.

He was an artist, historian, hunter, gardener and chef. He was Santa Claus for the FUMC for many years and a staunch UT Longhorn supporter.

He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Phillips, in 1995, and Susan Hicks, in 1999; a son-in-law, Robert Hicks, in 2003; a brother, James Sullivan; and two sisters, Nancy Dickens and Pat Woodward.

Survivors include two daughters, Katy Taylor and husband Charlie of Wellington and Lucy Nichols and husband Mark of Seminole; 10 grandchildren, Shana Gensler, Jeff Ray, Chris Ray, Bobby Phillips, Paige Nester, David Phillips, Tracey Ouellette, Blaine Nichols, Lindsay Nichols and Brett Nichols; and 13 great-grandchildren.
