Russell Vernon Petersen, 90, of Palm Desert died July 5, 2006, in Palm Desert from complications of pancreatic cancer.
He was born Sept. 8, 1915, to Otto and Mary Petersen in Grandy, Minn.
He married Leonarda Langner on July 1, 1995, in Palm Desert.
He was a teacher and counselor at Paul Revere Junior High School in Pacific Palisades for 35 years and served in the Army from 1942 to 1946, attaining the rank of captain.
He was a member of the Optimist Club in Palm Desert and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Leonarda Petersen of Palm Desert, and a sister, Melphi Allen of Apple Valley.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Jeanine Petersen, in 1994.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Wiefels & Son Funeral Directors in Palm Springs.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palm Desert.
Burial will be at Desert Memorial Park cemetery in Cathedral City with Wiefels & Son Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests that donations be made to the Optimist Youth Fund in Palm Desert.
