Mariah Emmer Payton's Services Set Monday
Obituary

Services for Mariah Emmer Payton, 83, Tyler, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at St. James CME Church in Tyler with the Rev. Reginald F. Garrett officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park under the direction of Madlock-Shaw Family Funeral Home, Tyler.

Mrs. Payton died Sept. 4 at her residence.

She was born April 6, 1913, in Bullard to the late Wil and Catherine Nixon. She attended Bullard public schools and was a member of St. James CME Church of Tyler, where she served in the missionary society and Sunday School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Payton, and four brothers, Claude Nixon, Joe Nixon, Jack Brooks and William Brooks, Jr.

Survivors include sister, Gladys Brooks Hayter, Tyler; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Pallbeared include Ronnie Brewster, Leon Hayter, Burlee Harmon, Frank Murphy, John White and Ricky Guthrie.

Viewing will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
