Born in NH, settled Marietta, OH a year after Rufus Putnam and the original 48 settlers. Married Elizabeth Dana, had 10 children.
Housewright (learned from father,) built several houses in and around Marietta, including his own house, the Paul Fearing house, the Daniel Story house, the original Blennerhassett mansion (rebuilt on its original foundations,) and drew plans for the first Courthouse, built in 1822.
A 3rd cousin of Arron Burr, was contracted by Burr and Harman Blennerhasset to build flatboats that were to be used on Burr's ill-fated expedition to New Orleans to found a new country.
Was County Commissioner, Associate Judge, Colonel in the State Militia, and State Representative. Wrote "Recollections of the First Settlement of Ohio."
