Mr. Adams was a career soldier, serving his country from June 1941 to April 1967, including action in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He received numerous medals during his career, including the Purple Heart, which he received in Vietnam on Feb. 20, 1966. He was a member of the Herrin VFW and the Freeman Spur American Legion posts. He was born in Plumfield on Feb. 17, 1918, to Thomas J. and Laura May (Karnes) Adams. Surviving are a sister, Hazel Prock of West Frankfort; nieces, Jeanine Gossage of Freeman Spur, and Pat Battaglia and husband Bill of Royalton; nephews, Lowell Hall and wife Mary Lou of Herrin, Richard McReaken and wife, Wanda of Zeigler, and Ray Hall and wife, Kathy of Herrin; seventeen great nieces and nephews, plus a special friend, J. D. McClure of Freeman Spur. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Doyie Adams and a sister, Marion Hall. At his request, Mr. Adams will be cremated and there will be no visitation or public services. Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home of Herrin, has been entrusted with arrangements.
