Mrs. Charles (Margaret) Steinmetz, Sr., age 85, of the Golden Age Home and formerly of Rt 2, Chippewa Falls, Town of Tilden, died Saturday evening at the Golden Age Home.

She was born Aug. 23, 1823, in the Town of Tilden, the daughter of Frank and Barbara (Groebel) Goettl. On Feb. 7, 1908, she married Charles Steinmetz, Sr. at St. Peter's Church, Tilden. They lived and farmed all their lives in the Town of Tilden.

Mrs. Steinmetz was a member of the Christian Mother's Society of St. Peter's Church.

She is survived by three sons, Charles, Jr., Chippewa Falls, Arnold, New Auburn, and Gerald, Rt. 2, Chippewa Falls; five daughters, Mrs. Art (Alfreda) Bowe, Chippewa Falls, Mrs. Joseph (Amelia) Boos, Cadott, Mrs. Gilbert (Florence) Pitt, Eau Claire, Mrs. Eugene (Viola) Hart, Marinette, and Mrs. Sylvan (Gloria) Zwefelhofer, Bloomer; 28 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sept. 15, 1973; one grandchild; one great grandchild; her parents; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, Tilden, with Rev. Hugo C. Koehler officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Tilden. Friends may call at the Burkart-Horan Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Monday. Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
