Paul A. Thistlethwaite, age 90, died peacefully at his home in Washington on Thursday, June 15, 2006. Mr. Thistlethwaite was a retired cattleman, farmer, lumberman and head of the Thistlethwaite family businesses. Born on Feb. 14, 1916, in Washington, he graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy and attended LSU.

Mr. Thistlethwaite served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the European Theater.

He is survived by his son, Dr. Patrick Thistlethwaite and wife Susan of Plaquemine; daughter, Ann T. Bienvenu and husband Keith of Washington; and a daughter-in-law, Judy J. Thistlethwaite of New Iberia. Mr. Thistlethwaite is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Aimee T. Ross and husband Craig of Shreveport, Carrie T. Booksh and husband Jeremy of Plaquemine, Patrick Thistlethwaite Jr. of Mobile, Ala., Beau Bienvenu and wife Melissa of Fort Collins, Colo., Barry Bienvenu, Paul Thistlethwaite II and Jennifer Thistlethwaite, all of Baton Rouge, and Laurie Thistlethwaite of New Iberia; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mable Carpenter Thistlethwaite; son, Don Thistlethwaite; father and mother, Allotes Thistlethwaite and India Hadley Thistlethwaite, who were of Sheridan, Ind.; brothers, Dwight, Edward and Lawrence; and a sister, Ludema Thistlethwaite.

He was a life member of the American Legion, Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church and a former director of Washington State Bank.

Visitation at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home, Opelousas, (337) 942-2638, on Saturday, June 17, from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Funeral service at Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Dale Hensarling conducting the service. Entombment in Bellevue Memorial Mausoleum, Opelousas.

He will be carried to rest by his grandsons, Beau Bienvenu, Paul Thistlethwaite II, Barry Bienvenu and Patrick Thistlethwaite Jr.; and grandsons-in-law, Craig Ross and Jeremy Booksh. Honorary pallbearers are Lawrence Thistlethwaite III, Jewel Willis, D.J. Marcantel, Casey Chamberlain and Sidney Chenier.

Memorial donations may be made to Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church, Opelousas, Hospice of Acadiana or to a charity of choice.
