HOWARD E. HARPER SR., age 88,of Concord Twp., formerly of Mentor on the Lake and Euclid, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at Hospice House in Cleveland. Born October 30, 1923, in Cleveland. Mr. Harper had retired in 1984, as Vice President of Sales, from Kerr-Lakeside Industries in Euclid. Prior to that, he had worked at Taylor & Boggis Foundry, in Euclid and Euclid Beach Park. He was a 1941 graduate of Euclid High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ohio University, in 1947. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a former member of the Amvets Post # 109, in Mentor on the Lake. Mr. Harper enjoyed golfing, traveling with his wife, gardening and boating on their boat "The Royal". He was a member of Grand River Yacht club and a past president of the Lake Overlook Beach Association and a longtime member of Mentor Plains United Methodist Church. Beloved husband, of 67 years, to Agnes (nee Knapke). Dear father of Judyth (Dan) Zaczkowski, Howard (Diane) Harper and Melissa (Richard) Dempsey. Grandfather of Richard (Lindsey) Dempsey, Mark Ulis, Jessica Dempsey and of the late Brian Ulis and Ken Zaczkowski. Great-grandfather of Colin Zaczkowski, Ava and Violet Dempsey. Son of the late Ralph and Minerva (nee Corlett) Harper. Brother of the late Robert and Ralph Harper. Uncle of David Harper, Nancy (Dan) Bolin, Laura (Mike) Perlic and Carol (Richard) Patrick. Brother-in-law of the late Harry and Violet Shea. Funeral service 11a.m., Thursday, at BRUNNER SANDEN DEITRICK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 8466 MENTOR AVE., MENTOR, OH 44060, WHERE THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS 5 - 8 P.M., WEDNESDAY. Interment will be in Mentor Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Mentor Board of Education, in care of the Brian Ulis Most Improved Achievement Award, 6451 Center St., Mentor, OH 44060.
