Sad And Tragic Death.

Ernest Whaley Kicked by a Horse at Dobson's 4 1/2 Miles N.E. of Severy.

Last Thursday morning, Sept. 2nd, Ernest was unhitching a harse from a sled belonging to Bob Dobson, when the horse in some way kick him twice in the stomach, knocking him a distance of about eight feet and knocked his breath from him, rendering him unconscious for about 20 minutes.

As soon as possible Mr. Dobson brought him to his home in the south part of town, when a physician was called and an examination made, but no one thought his condition serious but he only lived two days and one night.

Friday evening he seemed to be more cheerful that at any time. He walked into the dining room and ate his supper and made the remark the he would soon be able to be out again. About 10:40 p.m., there was a change for the worse and at 11 p.m., he ceased to breathe.

Ernest was half way along in his 21st year, having been born Feb. 18th, 1889, and was the son of Mrs. Will West of Severy. He was of a friendly and cheerful disposition, clean language and habits with a worthy character. He was the pride and hope of his parents, a kind and dutiful son and an affectionate brother, always responding in every way that would promote the pleasure and welfare of those of the family of which he was a loyal and loving member.

Impressive services were conducted at the home last Saturday afternoon Rev. Rogers, of the M.E. church, officiating. He leaves a mother, step-father, four brothers and three sisters, who, with many other friends will mourn his death. Interment was made in Twin Groves cemetery.
