Dies Saturday

W. A. "Bill" Roberts, former sheriff of Pottawatomie county, died at a local hospital Saturday morning about 11:40 after an illness of 10 days with penumonia(sic). He was 56 years old.

Roberts was a pioneer resident of the county, having moved here with his parents from Montague county, Texas in 1892. His parents settled at the old trading post town of Brown, near Tecumseh. He later engaged in the

dairying(sic) business and operated a farm in north Pottawatomie county. He was one of the most widely known men in this area, being elected sheriff in 1931 and re-elected for a second term.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by two sons, Willard and John Roberts of Shawnee; four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Farthing of Saint Louis, Mrs. Ray Chaneellor(sic) and Mrs. Roy Gentry of Shawnee, and Mrs. Lynn Cooper of Tecumseh; his father J. A. Roberts of Tecumseh; two brothers, J. E. Roberts of La Mesa, Tex., and J. D. Roberts of Tecumseh; two sisters, Mrs. F. F. Shirey of Bridgeport and Mrs. W. N.

Wisdom of Shawnee, and four granddaughters.

Funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in Dale high school auditorium with Rev. C. L. Truett and Rev. Roy McClurg in charge. Burial will be in the Tecumseh cemetery.

Bearers will be O. P. Benton, D. O. Barton, Terry Owens, Frank Fox, E. J. Bell and W. L. Gentry. Honorary bearers will be Ira Watson, Max Crouch, Park Wyatt, Mead Norton and J. J. Jordan.

Cooper's of Tecumseh is in charge of arrangements.
