Mrs. Zora Taylor, Born in Log Cabin, Observes 90th birthday

Mrs. Zora Taylor of Conneaut, who was born in a log cabin at Keepville 90 years ago, was honored at her home recently. A supper which featured a large birthday cake served on a musical platter, was attended by Miss Zola Kennedy, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Taylor, Robert Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hedderick and family, Mr. and Mrs. William Cornell, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Taylor and family of Painesville and Mrs. C. D. Bedford and Laura Bedford, Chicago.

Mrs. Taylor, daughter of Adeline and Sylvester Kennedy, has many memories to recall. She was wed to Lester Taylor July 22, in 1880 and they became the parents of two sons, Robert, who is now at home, and George, also of Conneaut. Mr. Taylor died February 26, 1913 and since that time she has made her home with her sister, Miss Lola Kennedy.

Twenty-six years a resident of Conneaut, she is a member of the Albion Methodist Church. Mrs. Taylor has four great-grandchildren.

She is particularly proud of her late great-grandfather, Elijah Lewis, who was a captain in the Revolutionary Army. She recalls that her grandfather Kennedy was a charter member of the East Springfield Christian Church. Her grandparents lived in a log cabin on Conneaut Creek near Albion and told their granddaughter that the Indians would come to the cabin and lift aside the blanket from the door. Later they built a house which had a basement made of cement from England.

A salt mine at Wellsburg was operated by her great-grandfather Wells. She remembers how the water had to be pumped and boiled. When reminiscing, many family projects are recalled such as the brick and the industry of which her father was in charge and supplied much of the building material for the old homes of Albion. Cheese making was also a family project.

With the exception of failing eyesight, Mrs. Taylor is quite active. Occasionally she enjoys making bread as she and her mother and grandmother did which also recall memories at 90 years.

Recalled Civil War

The near centurian herself recalled seeing soldiers board trains to fight in the Civil War.
