Clyde was born March 5, 1925 in Joshua, the second son of George Oscar and Maudie Mae Brawner. He was raised on a farm in Johnson County and graduated from Godley High School in 1942. Clyde was a World War II Navy veteran and served aboard the USS Catskill LSV-1 in the South Pacific. After the war, he was employed by Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Co. and attended Texas Christian University. On March 27, 1948, Clyde married Mattie Lou Lucas and later had two sons, Ronald and David Brawner. He was a farmer, rancher and businessman who also loved coaching and watching baseball. After 45 years of service, he retired from Williamson-Dickie as corporate chief engineer. Clyde was a member of University Baptist Church, the VFW and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Maudie; brothers, James and Harold; and sisters, Gracie and Melba.
Survivors: Loving wife of 64 years, Mattie Lou Brawner of Fort Worth; sons, Ronald and wife, Martha Brawner, and David and wife, Cathy Brawner, all of Fort Worth; brother, Orlan Brawner of Alvarado; sister, Wanda and husband, Bob Jones, of Joshua; grandchildren, Mark, Brent and Rebecca Brawner of Fort Worth, and Luann Smith and husband, John, of Los Angeles, Calif.; and great-grandchild, Dallas Clyde Smith of Los Angeles.
