Private Andreason entered military service in March 1944 and he served until his death one year later at Iwo Jima.

Private George Harold Andreason, USMC, of Cleveland, Ohio, was killed in action at Iwo Jima, Japan on 12 Mar 1945. PVT Andreason was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart medal. The medal, long missing, was recently discovered in Oregon and it was returned to his son in a ceremony organized by the group Purple Hearts Reunited.
