Inventor, Developer. He was considered by many as one of the most influential figures in the development and manufacture of the home treadmill. A mechanical engineer by profession in the aerospace industry, he built and marketed his first treadmill in the late 1960s. At that time it was used almost exclusively by doctors to perform stress tests and other medical procedures on their patients. Shortly afterward, he saw the potential to market an inexpensive treadmill commercially for personal use in the home, to promote the health benefits of exercise. He began selling his treadmill (called the PaceMaster 600) through a manufacturing company named Aerobics Inc. He was the recipient of Health Fitness Magazine's "Lifetime Achievement Award" for hie efforts in developing and introducing the treadmill to the public sector.
