STRONGHURST, Ill. - Virgie Ellen Thirtyacre, 86, Stronghurst, formerly of Burlington, died Monday, April 26, 2004, at the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab, Stronghurst.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello. The Revs. Charles W. Stevens and Kevin Nihart will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by Dawn Sessions, Kevin Nihart and Jennie Nihart. Casket bearers are John Shaw, Mark Riney, Shane Thirtyacre, Pat Nicholson, Robby West and Tom Nicholson. Honorary casket bearers are Perry Thirtyacre, Rick West, Ryan West, Mike Riney, Clay Nicholson, Jason Knittig and Luke Barton. Burial will be at the Wapello Cemetery.

Visitations are noon-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, and family will be present from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established to benefit the Oak Lane Nursing Home and the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Mrs. Thirtyacre was born Oct. 22, 1917, in Pocohontas, the daughter of Perry Wylye and Jennie Bell Collins Tomson. She married Elmer E. Thirtyacre June 26, 1935, in Burlington. They later divorced and he preceded her in death May 26, 1993.

She had spent her early years around Wapello. The family moved to Gorin, Mo. in 1954. They moved to Burlington in 1969.

She was a homemaker and had loved baby-sitting for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and flowers and had a special attraction to yard sales.

Through the years she had worked at the Canning Factory, Wapello, and then later at the Burlington Care Center and also a short time at AntennaCraft, Burlington.

She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Burlington.

Survivors include three daughters, Bonnie Jo West of Lomax, Ill., Erna C. Riney and Beverly A. Thornton, both of Burlington; two sons, Roy E. Thirtyacre of Jefferson City, Mo., and Steven G. Thirtyacre of Niota, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, John H. Tomson of Spokane, Wash., and Paul L. Tomson of Wapello; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband; a sister, Nancy Tomson; and three brothers, Burl "Lin" Tomson, Perry Tomson Jr. and Kelly Tomson.
