Herbert Maxwell Galloway was born on June 21, 1911, in the same house where he died, 407 N. 2nd St., Marshalltown, the son of Fred W. and Abbie E. Whinery Galloway.

Max was reared in Marshalltown. He graduated from Marshalltown High School and Marshalltown Junior College. He also attended Central Iowa Business College.

Max married Mabel Louise Foster on June 9, 1935, in Marshalltown.

He was a veteran of World War II, and, as a Technical Sergeant, served in three battle campaigns.

He served as an agent of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company until ill health forced him to retire in 1965.

Max was a member of the Central Christian Church, the American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post 46, the Marshall County Vagabonds, the Foresters Camping Club, the National Campers and Hikers Association, and the Veterans Association of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

Max Galloway passed away on Monday, December 1, 1980, in his home at 407 N. 2nd St, Marshalltown.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel; his four children, Janet M. (Max) Graves, Marshalltown;
twin sons, Robert W. Galloway, Des Moines, Iowa, and Ronald L. Galloway, Marshalltown; and
Linda L. (Warren) Balvanz, Marshalltown.

He is also survived by ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Herman Johnson, Marshalltown.

Funeral services were Wednesday, December 3, at 3:30 p.m. at the Central Christian Church, Marshalltown, with Rev. Kenneth Dean officiating. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Central Christian Church. Pallbearers were Melvin Anderson, Ed Rider, John Botsford, Charles Thomas, Andy Githens, Wilfred Neff, and Charles Coffin. Marshalltown Police Department personnel attended in a group.
