Daniel E. Allen married Emma (Amy) Eppes Goodwyn, daughter of Colonel Peterson and Elizabeth (Peterson) Goodwyn of Dinwiddie County, Virginia. An inscription on the marble slab under which he is buried reads as follows, "Beneath this stone lie the remains of Daniel E. Allen, who died at "Mayfield" near Petersburg in this county October 24th, 1847, aged 62 years. To commemorate the virtues of a beloved and most affectionate father, his daughter Eliza Ann Eppes Allen has caused this tablet to be erected."
