Jack H. Carlman, born August 31, 1930, son of Harvey and Manta Carlman, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 14, 2011.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; sister, Margueritte; four children, Stephen Carlman, Dan Carlman, Gail Schoolland and Laura Ungersma; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandsons.

Dad was born in Wichita, Kansas, and traveled West with his family to escape the Dust Bowl when he was 6. He was raised on the banks of the Columbia River outside of Camas, Washington until he was 16, when he joined the Army Air Corps. He spent the next 20 years in the service of his country.

He met Donna Richards, also from the Vancouver area, and they married on May 25, 1952. They traveled to various military assignments, building and raising a close and loving family along the way.

They settled in Eatonville, on 32 acres, where they spent the next 20 years. Dad loved his family and many Saturdays were spent starting with a large breakfast cooked by dad, and then burning stump piles or splitting fence posts or building rabbit hutches together.

Sundays were always spent traveling to Tacoma to worship at the Christian Reformed Church on 72nd St.

Planning for retirement and a smaller workload, they moved to Lakewood for a short time, and then to Lynden to be nearer their daughters.

Dad taught us much, more by example than anything, and leaves behind a fine family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who all love the Lord and each other. Thanks Dad, we love you and will miss you until we meet again in Heaven.

A memorial service was held Monday, Dec. 19th, 1:00 PM at the United Reformed Church of Lynden, 8650 Benson Rd. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 20th, 11:30 AM at Faith Presbyterian Church, 620 S. Shirley St., Tacoma, followed by a 2:30 PM, graveside service, with Military Honors, at Fir Lane Memorial Park, 924 E. 176th St., Spanaway, WA.
