He made his fortune as a manufacturer of shoes. His company, The Brown Group, was the manufacturer of Buster Brown shoes. The mausoleum was designed by Mauran, Russell & Crowel, St. Louis architects, in 1928. Younger brother of A.D. Brown.

The stained glass window in the mausoleum was done by renowed Stained Glass Window artist, Henry Wynd Young. Mr. Young's work also adorns many cathedrals and churches including St John the Divine, St Bartholomew's NYC, and the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
