After service in the United States Army he was honorably discharged and entered the finance business. He moved to Dallas and went to work for Chilton Corporation in 1968, retiring in 1989 as President and Chief Executive Officer.
Van played contract bridge and was an outstanding yachtsman and past commodore of Rush Creek Yacht Club. He was also a member of the Cross Country Club of Dallas as well as the Plano Pacers and was an extremely competitive local age-group runner. Van also enjoyed golf and was a member of Royal Oaks Country Club.
His survivors include his lovely wife of 55 years,two brothers of Salt Lake City, one son of Leawood, Kansas, and his two grandsons of whom he was so proud.
Services are reserved for the family.
