Frances "Fannie" was first married to Charles Briggs (1840-1862) Her first husband had enlisted in the Civil War as a Private on 8 October 1861 and was accidentally killed Company A, 3rd Cavalry Regiment Wisconsin on 26 Mar 1862.
Frances DePue Briggs Wilber died Dec. 10, 1874 at the young age of 28. Yet they still managed to have two children , Melville and Annie, before her death.
DeForest was the step father to Fannie's dau. Martha Briggs. Martha's biological father was killed in the Civil War 4 months before Martha was born ( July 1862).
