Deceased Name: Mr. Cecil Harold Morgan Jr.
83, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. The funeral will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Morgan was a native of Chatham County, and a longtime resident of Greenville. He attended Mars Hill College, and was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during World War II. For more than 38 years, Mr. Morgan worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles as a licensed examiner retiring at the rank of Major and Chief Driver's License Examiner in 1992. He was instrumental in compiling the motorcyclists' handbook for the Department of Motor Vehicles. He was a member of the Greenville Church of God, the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA), and the Christian motorcycle Association (CMA). In his early years, he was very involved in Boy Scouts, achieved the Eagle Scout award, and became a Scout Master.
Mr. Morgan was a devoted Christian man who embraced life everyday. He very much enjoyed riding his motorcycle, followed NASCAR, and previously enjoyed camping, especially in the North Carolina Mountains. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jean Sawyer Morgan; sons, Cecil Harold "Mike" Morgan III and wife, Judy, and William "Lee" Morgan and wife, Vickie; daughter, Patricia Ann Combs; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, all of Durham; sister in-law, Ellen Silverthorne and husband, Roy, of Greenville; beloved pet Pug, Sophie; and many friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
