She married John Gallo in 1898 and their son Nicholas and daughter Theresa were born in Colobraro, Italy.
She immigrated to Youngstown in 1903 to join her husband John who had immigrated with her half sister Mariantonia LaTeana Bowles a year earlier. Her brother James Vincenzo Popia immigrated in 1900.
John and Madeline had 12 children, 2 whom died young and 16 grandchildren.
She was a fantastic cook and her grandchildren fondly recall the stacks of pizza always available. She would use 50 lb bags of flour when she was making her pizza dough in a large wash pan and would have her daughters kneed the dough until it was ready. It had to snap before it was just right to make the dough.
