Mishap Victim's Funeral Set Here Accident is Fatal to Lodge Grass Man
The body of Melvin Lorin Almond, 65, who died at a Townsend hospital Sunday following an automobile accident, was brought to the Settergren funeral home tuesday.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Settergren chapel. Burial will be in Mountview cemetery.
Mr. Almond, a Lodge Grass resident, and his son, Arnold V. Almond, who recently returned from overseas duty with the army, were en route to Hamilton Wednesday to visit relatives when their car was struck from behind by another car near Three Forks, it was reported here.
His death was attributed to the fracture of several vertabrae in the neck. The son escaped injury.
Mr. Almond was born Sept. 1, 1880, at Unionville, Iowa. On Jan. 12, 1902, he married Susie Anderson at Miller, S.D., where he farmed and ran a dray line.
They moved to Montana in 1916, homesteading eight miles southwest of Hysham. For several years, before moving to Lodge Grass in 1934, he owned and operated a filling station at Hysham. His last employment was as custodian at the Lodge Grass high school.
Surviving are the widow; four daughters, Mrs. Verlin Johnson, Forsyth; Mrs. O. Berkman, 3111 Montana avenue; Mrs. Harry Swanson, 321 North Twenty-third street; two other sons besides Arnold Almond, Rayburn R. Almond, Shepherd, and Carl Almond, Hysham; three brothers, Bert Almond, Portland, Ore.; Grover Almond and Carl Almond, Miller; a sister, Mrs. John Redelfs, Marysville, Wash., and 12 grandchildren.
