Rooftop Leap Fatal-Dayton Daily News-June 20, 1968

A 14-year-old East Dayton youth was dead on arrival at Miami Valley hospital Wednesday afternoon after falling 20 feet from a rooftop ledge where he and three other youths played.

Police said Paul Calvin Kilbarger, 14, of 12 Dayton Ave., and three other youths decided to jump from an attic window ledge on the fourth floor at 115 Holt St. to a ledge next door.
After making the jump, police said Kilbarger’s friends decided to go through the house at 143 Holt to get down.
Kilbarger decided to jump back and failed.

I only had the newspaper article and a short obituary to work with.

I considered Paul as a good friend. He was a troubled kid, but I think he was trying to turn his life around. He and some of his friends were coming by my house now and then to do yard work for my mom. One day his friends stopped by without him. When we ask why he was not with them, they broke the sad news that he had died from falling from a roof.
I remember that many of us were upset at his "viewing" because his hair was "slicked back" and he didn't wear his hair that way. Mainly we were upset that he was gone. I also had a crush at him which I don't think he ever knew about.

---------------------------------------------------------
I don't know why they said he was from East Dayton because that area is and has been known as West Dayton or Dayton View for quite some time.
