Marjorie Ione Gross, age 91, of 16343 West 9th Road, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away at 12:50 a.m., on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Miller's Merry Manor, in Plymouth.
Marjorie was born on August 18, 1920, in Plymouth, to Brook and Pearl (Seybold) Bower, in her family home on 5A Road, which is an historical civil war home, now called Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast. Marjorie was a graduate of La Paz High School in the Class of 1938. She was always outgoing and active, and was involved in La Paz Lakeview Home Demonstrations Club, serving as president and secretary; the Marshall County 4-H Fair Board, serving as secretary; and with the Marshall County 4-H Fair Grounds, helping with the office work.
On April 26, 1945, Marjorie became the bride of Raymond Lawrence Gross at a ceremony in Saint Michael Catholic Church, in Plymouth. Marjorie and Raymond were lifelong residents of the Marshall County Area. She loved being outdoors, as a farm wife, on the Gross Dairy Farm. She worked at the "five and dime store", in downtown Plymouth, where she met her husband Raymond. They had been married for 63 years at the time of his passing. Marjorie sewed mittens, in the upstairs of the formerly known Cook Brother's Furniture Store building, and worked at Indiana Motor Bus Station, which was located in what is now the Plymouth Fire Department. The couple also raised chickens and sold the eggs at the Tyner Grocery Store. Marjorie and Raymond enjoyed playing cards, sitting around campfires, and eating out with her La Paz high school classmates. They spent their winters in Avon Park, Florida. Marjorie's hobbies included; flower arranging; making purses out of yarn; and needlepoint pictures. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Marjorie is survived by her sons, Robert L. Gross and Donald W. (Constance "Connie" Harness) Gross all of Plymouth; her grandson, Matthew (Meghan) Gross and her great- granddaughter, Georgia Gross, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and her brother, Roger (Jane Shipper) Bower of Warsaw, Indiana. Marjorie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond Lawrence Gross, on December 23, 2007; and her sisters, Miriam (Bower) Humphrey, Vivian Bower, and Winifred (Bower) Burkhart
