Noel T. Cudd, Jr., age 71, of Amarillo, a former Wellington resident, died Thursday, January 30, 1997. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Saturday, February 1, 1997 in the First United Methodist, Wellington, with Rev. Steve Ulrey, pastor, and Rev. James Martindale, pastor of First Baptist Church, McLean, officiating. Burial was in North Fairview Cemetery, Wellington, under the direction of Adams Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Mark Strickland, Rusty Strickland, Glen Slallings, Chad Stallings, Tatum Stallings and Raegan Sizemore. The VFW post #6439 military flag detail was made up of Jim Sikes, Leonard Kujawski, Jack Winslett, John Rhodes, Jimmy "Bear" Bowen, Bill Owens, and Raymond Horton. The flag was presented to the widow. Taps was played by Raymond Horton.

Born in Wellington June 30, 1925 to Noel T. Cudd Sr and Lizzette M Harrison Cudd, he graduated from Wellington High School in the Class of 1942. He graduated from West Texas State University in 1950, returning after playing pro-football with the Los Angeles Rams in 1948 and the New York Yankees in 1949. He married Wynona Light in 1947 in Wellington.

From 1950 to 1955 he lived in Clarendon where he operated a trucking business. While there he served on the city commission. From 1955 to 1967, he lived in Corpus Christi where he operated Cudd Motor Lines and Cudd Insurance Agency. He lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1968 to 1980 and was president of the AAA Business College there. He moved to Amarillo in 1980. Mr Cudd was a sales representative for Southwest Equipment of Justin. He was active in numerous private school associations and had served on the Arizona Department of Corrections Trade Advisory Council, the New
Mexico Board of Educational Finance Advisory Council and the Albuquerque OCETA Planning Board. He had been a member of and had held all local offices with the Lions Club. He was a lifetime member of the Optimist Club and also had held all local and state offices. He also was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, where he held all local and state and some national offices, including Deputy Supreme Governor of Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and New Mexico. Mr Cudd was a Methodist. He served in the Navy during World War ll.

Survivors include his wife, Wynona, of the home; a daughter, Phyllis Lee of Plainview; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Jean Cudd of Wellington; a grandson, Brent Lee, of Lubbock and a sister-in-law, Exa Cudd, of Wellington.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Hiram Cudd and a sister, Ineva "Corky" Cudd Bowen.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Cal Farley's Boys Ranch or the Wellington Cemetery Association.
