Mary Estelle McIvor Andrews Mary Estelle McIvor Andrews, 100, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at her home in Madison Heights, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Macon Bryant Andrews. Born in Monroe, Va, she was the daughter of the late Christopher Earl McIvor and Annie Estelle Ford McIvor.
Mary was preceded in death by four sisters, Christine M. Smith, Mildred M. White, Mattie McIvor, and Frances McIvor, and three brothers, Malcolm Earl McIvor, Labon E. McIvor, and Judson McIvor. She was also preceded by her dear stepmother, Margaret Noell McIvor.
Mary is survived by five nieces, Shirley Katherine McIvor of Lynchburg, VA; Carolyn McIvor Dews and husband, Malcolm, of Crewe, VA; Barbara Ann McIvor Morris and husband, Marshall, of Forest, VA; Virginia McIvor Sutherland of Madison Heights, VA; Ann Wright Steele and husband, Ed, of Raleigh, NC; and one nephew, Fletcher J. Wright, III of Scottsville, VA; and numerous great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Mary led an active life. She attended Virginia Commercial College, and worked as executive secretary to the plant manager of American Cyanamid. Mary was a member of Mountain View Garden Club, Fort Hill Women's Club, and Winton Country Club. She was also a lifelong member of Monroe United Methodist Church, where she also taught Sunday school and served on the administrative board.
Graveside services will be held at Amherst Cemetery on Monday, May 28th, at 2:00 PM. The Reverend George Riggins of Monroe United Methodist Church will officiate.
Driskill Funeral Chapel of Amherst (434/946-5529) has been entrusted with the arrangements.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation to Monroe United Methodist Church, PO Box 237, Monroe, VA 24574 or a charity of their choice.
