Donald E. Dabney, age 60 of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at a Topeka hospital. He was born December 12, 1951 in Albuquerque, New Mexico the son of David and Lorraine Smith Dabney.

He graduated in 1970 from Murphy High School in Mobile, AL. He served in the U.S. Army from June of 1972 June of 1975 and again from 1988 1993.

He married Lisa Hart September 24, 1983 in Mobile, Alabama.

He worked as a band instrument repair technician in Topeka for Manning Music, and was a member in good standing with the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians. He was an active member of the Western Hills Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa of over 28 years; two sons, Robert Dabney of Kansas City, MO and Alex Dabney, currently stationed in the U.S. Navy at Ventura, CA; two daughters, Meredith Dabney and Emily Dabney, both of Topeka; four brothers, Thomas Dabney, David Dabney, Douglas Dabney and Stephen Dabney, all of Mobile, Alabama and three grandsons.

Don fought his cancer hard for four years, and never asked why or made a single complaint. He continued working and taking care of his family, pushing through his pain. He was a kind and gentle man who fiercely loved his family, his Heavenly Father and his Country. His integrity and work ethic were flawless. His love for anyone and everyone was endless always ready and available to help anyone in need. He is loved and missed by many.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Western Hills Baptist Church. He will lie in state Monday from 1:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at Western Hills Baptist Church with visitation from 6:00 8:00 p.m. also at Western Hills Baptist Church. Inurnment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Western Hills Baptist Church and left in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
