HUGH GREGG BURIAL AT KANSAS CITY
Last rites for Hugh C. Gregg, 62, 2 miles north of Tightwad who died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 8, after suffering a heart attack, were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday February 12, at Sickman and Dunning Funeral Home, Mrs. James B. Marks, organist, accompanied vocalist, Lewis DeLozier.
Pall bearers were Edward Stephens, Gene Sampson, Arthur Tuter, Ralph Manuel, Clarence Williams and Manford Martin. Interment was in Mt. Moriah Masonic Cemetery, Kansas City. MO.
Hugh Chandis Gregg only child of Andrew Leonard and Abbie Luella Gleason Gregg was born Feb. 6, 1909, at Rantoul, Kan. He spent his boyhood in KS and at the age of 10 or 12, moved to Kansas City, Kan.
On January 15, 1944, he married Doris Mae Harris. They established their home in Kansas City where Mr. Gregg was a sign hanger and instructor. In 1952 they moved to their present farm home in the Coal vicinity which they purchased. Seven years ago in May he discontinued his farming operation and was employed as a carpenter with the C. E. Stephens Construction Company.
Mr. Gregg was a member of the Rantoul, Kan., Baptist Church and later transferred to the Grandview Presbyterian Church, Kansas City, Kan. He had been a member of Sign Hangers Union and of the Ivanhoe Chapter of Masons, Kansas City.
Mr. Gregg devoted to his family, was also a good loyal neighbor and friend. He was quiet and unassuming and though reserved, friends became staunch, ones upon learning to know him. He found special delight in boating and fishing which was shared by his faithful companion.
He leaves his wife and his mother, of the home; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Edith Harris, Kansas City; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Harry Hawes, Sacramento, Calif.; his uncle and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Gillenwater, Beaverton, Ore., and Mrs. Floretta Weaver, Paola, Kan.; a number of other relatives and many friends.
