T/Sgt Earl B. Groves from Falls Creek was a radio operator in the 703rd Bombardment Squadron stationed in Tibenham, England during WWII. He was killed in action 27 September 1944, when his B-24J (serial # 42-51532) named "Hot Rock" was shot down and crashed 1.5km north of Honebach, Germany. His plane was piloted by 1st Lt. William J. Mowat. The 703rd was part of the 445th Bombardment Group which launched 39 B-24 aircraft that day. They were leading the 2nd Air Combat Division in the infamous bombing raid of Kassel, Germany. Only 4 airplanes returned.
