James Madison Bowler, when 23 years old, enlisted on 11/8/1861 at Medford, Steele Co., MN as a Corporal and mustered into "E" Co. MN 3rd Infantry. He was discharged for promotion on 4/1/1865. On 5/19/1865 he was commissioned into Field & Staff US CT 113th Infantry and was later discharged on 4/9/1866.
Promotions: 2nd Lieutenant Captain 12/1/1862, Major 5/19/1865 (As of 113th USCT Infantry)
