Alvin Elmo Smelley, 89 of Carson, died at his home April 25, 2001. Mr. Smelley was born in Mecklenburg County, Va., a son of the late Burthold Alvin and Elva Mildred Strange Smelley.
He was a lifetime farmer, a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, a charter member of Carson Ruritan Club and a member of Edwards Masonic Lodge No. 308 A.F.& A.M. of Stony Creek.
He was preceded in death by his son, Alvin Carleton "Bud" Smelley.
Mr. Smelley is survived by his wife, Gertrude Falk Smelley of the home; four daughters, Elva S. Williams of Carson, Va., Betty June Pratt of Williamsburg, Va., Mary Ellen Pratt and Peggy S. Lewis of Carson; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and 3 nieces.
