Memorial services for Gertrude Rodgers Mason, age 89, will be at 2:00PM on Saturday, August 20, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church in Thomasville. The Rev. Keith Hill will officiate. Mrs.

Mason died at her home August 15, 2005, after an extended illness.

Born in Apalachicola, Fl, July 21, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Richard Lafayette Rodgers and Evelyn Pearl Ward Rodgers.

She grew up in Clearwater, Fl, and graduated from Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee, FL with a degree in Home Economics. She was a member of Phi Mu sorority.

She met her husband to be, James S. Mason, at a USO dance while he was stationed at Drew Field in Tampa. They were married September 10, 1942 in Clearwater.

After World War II they moved to the Mason family home on Susina Plantation in Grady County. In the early 1950?s they moved to Thomasville where they renovated and restored a home on Gordon Ave. Years later they settled on Junius Street. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Thomasville Garden Club, the UDC, and the DAR. Mrs. Mason was a homemaker and an avid collector of 17th and 18th century American and English antiques and was a partner with her husband in the family business. James S. Mason Antiques.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James S. Mason, grandson, Richard Robert Dick-Bob Mason, daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Mason and brother, Richard Ward Rodgers.

She is survived by four children, James Michael Mason and wife Reba of Sopchoppy, FL, Eleanor Anne Dawson of Rock Hill, S. C., Richard Rodgers Mason and wife Carolyn of Grady County, David Lafayette Mason of Thomasville; four grandchildren, James Christian Mason and wife, Sharon, Laura Amanda Mason, Brenus Wilson Benjamin Dawson and wife Courtney, Dietrich Mason Camden Dawson; and two great-grandchildren, Talin Alysse Mason and Reilly James Mason.

The family will receive friends after the service at her home at 139 Junius Street.
