James S. Mason IV grew up on Susina Plantation in Grady Co., south of Thomasville Georgia, in the then Duncanville. He joined the Army in 1941. On 10 Sep 1942 he and Olga Gertrude Rodgers were married in Clearwater, Florida, where Trudie grew up.
This union created four children: James Michael, Eleanor Anne, Richard Rodgers and David Lafayette.
He authored two books: "Oh, Susina!" and "Castles in Wet Sand, A Sequel to Oh, Susina"

His death occurred on Trudie's birthday, 21 Jul 2005.
