This photo of Victoriano Alva with wife Loreta Tijerina was taken prior to 1897. Loreta received her last sacraments (Extreme Unction) from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Austin and was buried in the Hornsby Bend Cemetery on Sept. 16, 1897 at the age of 45. Victoriano and Loreta were married on April 13, 1867 at the San Fernando Catholic Church in Bexar County. According to San Fernando Catholic baptismal records they adopted a daughter, Jesusa and had 13 more children (4 girls and 9 boys). The first 5 were baptized at the San Fernando Catholic Church in Bexar County and in 1876 their remaining children were baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Austin. In the 1900 Hays County census Victoriano is listed as a Widower, Farmer and father to 6 young boys. On Nov. 15, 1900 he purchased 160 acres of land for $425 on the headwaters of Barton Creek in Hays County, Dripping Springs (the McArthur Survey part of the Homestead Act of 1862). In 1922 and "considering the uncertainty of life," his Last Will and Testament was filed in Hays County leaving 100 acres to three sons (Francisco also known as Frank, Santiago known as Jim and Crescencio known as Mr. C), he gives his son Felipe (also known as Phillip) 60 acres of the original 160 acres of land situated on the headwaters of Barton Creek. On March 28, 1932, Victoriano Alba passed away and is buried in the Alba-Duran Cemetery on Bell Springs Road, his headstone is a tiled cross bearing his name.
