Mr. Lewis, born in Naples, was a 1956 honor graduate of Pewitt High School where he was valedictorian, and a 1960 graduate of the University of North Texas at Denton.
He had taught school at Palestine, AR, Yorktown, TX and at Canyon Junior High in New Braunfels. He was serving as principal of Shiner Elementary School. He was a member of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Assoc., and the Texas State Teachers Association.
He was preceded in death by his father Claud C. Lewis.
