Community Shocked by Death of T. C. Lee of Lee Bros. Motor Co.

Died Suddenly Wedneday Evening--Had Always Enjoyed Fine Health--Was One of Leaders in Madison's Civic and Social Life--Was Born and Reared in this County--Came to Madison in 1910.

Theo C. Lee was born in Madison township on April 27, 1884, and grew to young manhood in that town. In 1910 he came to this city and accepted employment from L. O. Berg. After working there for a short time he was employed by Henry Galle. He then purchased an automobile and operated a livery station for some time. In those days there were not many automobiles here and a livery was a flourishing business. He prospered in this line and later formed a partnership with Ole Kravik as the firm of Kravik and Lee.

They conducted this business until 1915 when they dissolved partnership and Mr. Lee's brother, C. O. Lee, joined him in the organization of the firm of Lee Bros. They secured the Ford agency from J. J. Little and erected a modern garage on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Second Street. This business continued to flourish and in 1924 it had grown to such an extent that they acquired the M. E. Jacobson building adjoining their garage and built the business to where it is one of the outstanding Ford agencies in the state of Minnesota. They have also operated the Madison Oil Co., since 1920. This is one of largest oil and gasoline distribuiting agencies in this city. In addition to being a keen business man, Mr. Lee also found time to take a prominent part in the social and civic activities of the city. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Kiwanis Club, the Commercial Club, the Golf Club, and the Madison Lutheran church, of which he was one of the leading members.

In 1923 he was elected as a member of the city council and served so faithfully there that he was rewarded by being elected mayor in 1925. He was re-elected in 1927 to serve a second term in that capacity.

Mr. Lee was confirmed in the Borgund Lutheran church of Cerro Gordo. On November 12, 1913, he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Pearson of Hantho, to which union one son, Charles, was born.

Those surviving him are, his widow, his son, six brothers, C. O. Lee, Henry Lee, Joseph Lee, Arthur Lee of this city, Oscar Lee of Cosmos, Minn., Thomas Lee of Knight's Landing, Cal., and two sisters, Mrs. Chas. Schmit of Britton, S. D., and Mrs. Ralph Ward of Newark, N.J.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Monday from the late home of the deceased and at 2:00 p.m. from the Madison Lutheran church. Rev. J. Tetlie, pastor of the church will officiate.
