Vernon E. Wagner, 91, of Boise, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in a Boise care center.

Vernon was born April 4, 1921, in Tuttle, N.D., to Fred E. and Alice Lehman Wagner. He attended and graduated high school in Steele, N.D., in 1940, and entered the U.S. Army on March 28, 1941. He was honorably discharged from the military in September 1943.

Vernon married G. Berniece Lund at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck, N.D., on Dec. 22, 1945. They lived in Bismarck and Riverdale, N.D., before moving to Idaho Falls in 1951.

Vernon worked for 32 years at INEL as the print shop supervisor. Vernon was very active and loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors, especially enjoying the annual summer Redfish Lake camping trip with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, and was well known around Idaho Falls for his wonderful raspberries and beautiful yard filled with tulips and flowers. Vernon also enjoyed bowling, golfing, coaching and umpiring Little League Baseball, skiing, playing cards, traveling, trips to Jackpot, photographing his beautiful flowers, Klondike Bars at 9 p.m., and most of all, his grandchildren.

Vernon volunteered to do the printing of the weekly church bulletin for the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of the Elks Club and senior golf.

Vernon is survived by his wife, G. Berniece Wagner of Boise; sons, Terry (Jeannie) Wagner and Hadley (Lorna) Wagner of Boise; daughter, Denise (Bruce) Mohr of Boise; and six grandchildren, McKenzie Wagner, Nic Wagner, Leslie Wagner, Scott Wagner, Andrew Mohr and Grayson Mohr.

The family would like to thank the staff of Wynwood Assisted Living and the Good Samaritan Society of Boise for their compassion and excellent care.

Private family interment will take place at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise.
