The Fifields were moved to Janesville, Wisconsin and amassed a fair fortune in the lumber business. It was in Janesville that Sarah met and married Hiram C. Bull May 9, 1853. Their only natural child died an infant on November 21, 1854, and was buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Janesville.
When Bull City, Osborne County, Kansas (now called Alton) was founded in 1870 Sarah Bull was appointed the first Postmistress. The Bulls adopted five-year old Lenora Elzora Mackey, minor child of George C. Mackey, on January 7, 1879, and renamed her Nora Lillian Bull. It was just ten months later that Hiram Bull and two other men were killed by a raging male elk.
Sarah witnessed the fatal attack and was hysterical and unable to function properly for weeks afterward. To add to her troubles Hiram Bull had left no will, and therefore by Kansas law his estate had to be assessed and then split between his widow and his daughter. Andrew Storer, Patrick Campbell, and Charles Guttery were appointed to assess the estate. It was found to have assets of $1,915 and debits totaling $3,301.42. Sarah had to pay a $3,000 bond to be made Administrix of her husband's estate. She then had to also pay a $1,000 bond made official guardian of her daughter, and be named Administrix of her daughter's half of the estate. Alton businessmen William W. Bush, Charles Storer, and Frank Fifield came forth and guaranteed the bonds.
Sarah continued to operate the Bull General Store until 1883, when she decided to move back to Janesville, Rock County, Wisconsin.
On November 8, 1884, Sarah Bull was made legal guardian of Nora Lillian Bull in Wisconsin. It took until January 22, 1885, before the last of Nora Lillian Bull's portions of Hiram Bull's estate were finally granted to Sarah Bull as her daughter's legal guardian.
Sarah was receiving a military widow's pension of $25.00 a month when she passed away in her home at 202 Ravine Street, Janesville, Wisconsin. Her funeral was held at the Trinity Episcopal Church and her burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery of Janesville, near her first child. The adopted daughter Nora Lillian (Bull) Hadden died in 1953.
