Matthew was the son of Marvin L. "Hans" and Mary Long Beem. He graduated from Eudora (KS) High School in 1987. He worked for 10 years as an extruder operator for E&E Specialties in Lawrence, KS. He was also a custodian for two years at Kennedy School in Lawrence and for nine years at Nottingham Elementary School in Eudora. He moved to Conyers, GA, in 2003. In Eudora, he was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was also a member of the National Rifle Assn. Matthew married Mary Rose Freeman on September 3, 1988, in Eudora. She survives with a daughter, Amanda Beem, his parents, a sister, Machaela Watson and a maternal grandmother, Fern Long. Matthew passed away at Lourdes Hospital at the age of 35.
