Bertha May Adkins Dies Here Today
Mrs. Bertha May Adkins, 78, of Route 1, Hinton, died at 8 a.m. today in the home of a daughter Mrs. James Spade following a long illness.
Born in Greenbrier County on September 17, 1895, she was a daughter of the late James M. and Emily Bowen [sic].
She was a member of the Baptist Church and had lived all of her life in Summers County.
Her husband, James Adkins, preceded her in death in 1949.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Adkins and Carl Adkins, both of Hinton, two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Bennett and Mrs. James Spade, both of Hinton; two brothers, Guy Bowden and and [sic] Ralph Bowden, both of Ronceverte; one sister, Mrs. Mary Bragg of Hinton; 30 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the E. M. Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Napoleon Gill in charge. Burial will follow in the Hill Top Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
