Gretchen E. Kieckhafer, 89, of Hooper died Thursday, April 12, 2012.
She was born Jan. 10, 1923, in rural Dodge County to Albert and Anna (Johnson) Christensen. She spent her early childhood in rural Dodge County before moving to the Plainview area in the mid 1930s. She moved to Mead and worked at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant at Mead from 1942 to 1944. She then moved back to Plainview and worked for Baber's Café. She married Arthur Kieckhafer on April 29, 1949, and they moved to California. The couple moved to Fremont in 1955 where she worked at Campbell Soup until 1960. In 1961, they moved to Hooper. She worked as a custodian at Logan View High School from 1978 until 1987. She then worked for her daughter and son-in-law at the Main Street Diner in Hooper until 2007.
Survivors include: daughter, Karen (George) Wagner of Hooper; sons, Loren (Judy) Kieckhafer, Alan (Peggy) Kieckhafer, both of Ogallala; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother Dean (Doris) Christensen of Hooper.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 1983, and nine brothers.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at the Hooper Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church in Hooper. Burial will follow in the Hooper Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hooper Volunteer Fire Department. Ludvigsen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
