Mrs. Gladys A. (Bero) Allen, 79, of 34 Center Street, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 17, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Gladys was born August 4, 1932 in Hogansburg, the daughter of the late David J. and Mary Sarah Seymour. She attended Mohawk School. On February 25, 1956, she married Robert L. Allen at the Church of the Sacred Heart. Robert predeceased her on November 5, 1987.

Her "full time job" was playing bingo. In addition, Gladys was a waitress for various restaurants including the Diamond Horseshoe and the Flander's Inn. She also worked as a dietary cook at the Highland Nursing Home until her retirement. Gladys also enjoyed playing cards, watching the Price is Right and spending time with her family. She was a communicant of the Church of the Sacred Heart and a member of the St. Regis Mohawk and Massena Senior Citizens.

Gladys is survived by her loving children, Gloria Detlor of Birmingham, Alabama, Rose Marie and Patrick Lawrence of Norfolk, Bobbi Lee Allen and her companion, Craig Lawrence of Massena and Ricky Allen of Massena; her grandchildren, Michelle Olson of Pinson, Alabama, Stephanie Wells of Massena, David Santamont of Troy, and Chad, Brooke, and Caleb Lawrence of Chase Mills; her beloved granddaughter, Matalyn Grace Olson; her sister, Jacqueline Billings Douglas of Surprise, Arizona; her beloved dog, Cuddles; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, David Todd Allen on July 23, 1974; three sisters, Hilda Mae White on October 11, 1965, Margaret Bero Griffin on May 30, 1999, Julie A. Deer on June 26, 2000; and a nephew who was raised as a brother, Daniel David Bero on December 22, 1981.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Donald J. Manfred, celebrating. Burial will be held privately in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider the St. Regis Mohawk Health Clinic, Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, or the Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation.
